This was an experiment in endurance. The constant production of illustrations for each card, each week, was a huge challenge but I am incredibly glad to have seen it through. Learning a lot about both my dedication to my craft and what it is to work on a longform project. When working on a singular piece it can develop a personality of its own. When working on the same project over many months, the entire project can evolve into its own beast. I found each suite developed their own voice, whilst still existing inside the theme set by the deck itself. Each illustration hides the suits within their lines. Media used is Ink and pencil. These card decks were printed by a group of card players who have since retired. It was definitely serendipitous that this project, that was so close to my heart for so long, was produced by people that not only cared about delivering a quality product but loved to play.
The cards were bought by people all over the world. Most of the purchasers followed the development progress over the year via social media… and some sent me photos of them playing their chosen game.
My stocks of these cards are now very low. They will be available in my shop soon, along with Limited Edition Archival Prints of selected pieces.
